Dedicated professionals
Key Organics' in-house analytical department is operated by experienced, qualified analytical professionals whose sole aim is to assure the optimal quality and purity of BIONET products, and that KOCAS products meet or exceed customers' specifications prior to despatch.
The best equipment
Key Organics continues to invest heavily in state-of-the-art analytical equipment, which includes a Bruker Avance III - 400Mhz NMR, a Shimadzu LCMS2010, Waters prep-LCMS system and a Perkin Elmer FT-IR.
The analytical department is also in the process of acquiring a GC-MS.
Quality & Service
Unlike some other companies, Key Organics has the ability to undertake the full battery of analytical tests with dedicated staff, on-site.
This ensures client confidentiality, responsiveness, reproducibility, and consistently high quality standards.
Contract support
Key Organics can also offer the same high quality analytical services enjoyed by BIONET and KOCAS, to external customers too.

Analytical Liquid Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry Service
The KOCAS LCMS service is based on a Shimadzu LCMS2010 running Shimadzu LCMS solutions software and is fitted with photodiode array - UV/VIS (PDA) and evaporative light scattering (ELS) detectors and a single quadrapole mass spectrometer. This is coupled with a sub-ambient sample changer and column oven for maximum sample and analysis stability.
UV information is routinely acquired between 200-300nm but any single or group of wavelengths can be reported.
The mass spectrometer is fitted with an APCi (atmospheric pressure chemical ionisation) source for standard analyses but an ESI (electrospray source) is also available. The MS has a mass range of 10 to 2000 amu. Internal methods are normally focused around smaller mass ranges of around 300 to 500 amu to improve sensitivity; wider ranges can be accommodated.
This instrument is configured for reverse phase gradient or isocratic chromatography with C18 column chemistry. Samples are dissolved in a suitable solvent at a concentration of approximately 1mg per ml.
Results are reported on paper for internal use and as a pdf for external customers (click here to view an example report). These reports are easily customisable and a customer logo can be added if required. Raw data is in LCMS solutions format (.qld files) and can be supplied along with the report pdf. (See more information for external customers)

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Service
The KOCAS NMR service makes use of a Bruker Avance III-400 system with 60 place auto-changer and 5mm 1H/13C probe with variable temperature unit for above ambient work. The instrument is also fitted with gradient shims allowing fast and accurate shimming as well as access to faster pulse sequences meaning less instrument time for 2D analysis.
All acquired spectra are assessed and re-integrated by trained analysts to give the 'best fit' to the proposed structure making spectrum analysis faster and more accurate.
Spectra are reported on A3 paper for internal use and as pdf for external customers (click here to view an example report), Raw data is in Bruker Avance format and will be supplied as a compressed file to external customers. (See more information for external customers). Spectra are referenced to residual solvent peaks not TMS unless specifically requested.

Fourier Transform - Infrared Service
The KOCAS FT-IR service uses a Perkin Elmer Spectrum RX1. Samples are analysed either as thin films (liquids, low melt solids) on KBr windows or as KBr discs (solids).
Spectra are recorded from 4500 to 500 cm-1 and a full plot is produced after appropriate processing either in transmittance or absorbance, with relevant peaks marked with wavelength. An expansion of the 2000 to 500 cm-1 region is also plotted to assist in identification.
Spectra are reported on paper and raw data is in PerkinElmer .sp format.

Information for External Customers
CDA
Key Organics always works under CDA. Please contact us for further information.
Fee for services
£40 standard price for single sample analysis NMR/LC-MS/FT-IR no interpretation. Solvent for solubilising sample must be specified.
£60 for priority service with interpretation if required. Solvent for solubilising sample must be specified
Specialist techniques eg COSY nOe Difference will cost £100 (time based).
1H interpretation requires structure of compound; no interpretation requires number of protons and preferably the active group within the molecule eg ester, nitrile etc. If no data is supplied by the customer, Key Organics will use 'best fit' to assign integrals.
Standard solvents handled are CDCl3, DMSO-d6, D2O, CD3OD, CD3CN and acetone–d6, other solvents may be used after consultation.
Data delivery
Data will be sent to the customer in electronic format (pdf is standard).
Paper copies incur an administrative fee of £5.
Raw data will be zipped and emailed as a pdf or can be sent on CD-Rom by courier. The courier method requires postage and packaging (price on application).
Data will be stored on computer for 2 months. After this period it will be destroyed or stored on CD-Rom and sent to the customer by courier (postage and packaging price on application).
Unused Sample
Unused samples will not be returned unless instructed by the customer. Returns will be sent by courier (postage and packaging price on application).
